Vineyards

Out of a necessity to find an alternative to the traditional tobacco crops, Kentucky farmers have been faced with finding alternative incomes and agritourism is now a blossoming business. The Land Between The Lakes National Recreational Area is a major tourist area in Western

Kentucky and with the increasing number of visitors being attracted by the fantastic scenery and many activities available, a large number of working farms have opened their doors to the public. One of the more recent trends is the turning over of tobacco fields to grape vines and as wine production starts, the LBL vineyards are becoming attractions in their own right.

If you fancy yourself to be a bit of a wine connoisseur, are a novice wine drinker who wants to learn more or you simple enjoy a glass or two at dinner, a trip to an LBL vineyard is an interesting day out.

A visit to one of Kentucky’s vineyards is not just a case of turning up at a winery, tasting a few wines, buying a couple of bottles and tootling off home again. Whilst not always so much fun for the kids, winery trips are perfect for adults. Every LBL vineyard is unique in character but across the entire region you’ll find a range of attractions.

Kentucky’s wines run the whole range, white to red and dry to sweet but you might like to sample the variety of fruit wines which are made from the locally grown produce. The winemakers also make use of the other farm goodies available as most of the wine tastings are accompanied by local cheeses. If you attend a tasting session you might find yourself in a room that echoes a Tuscan farm kitchen or a Chateau wine cellar or you can visit a vineyard that runs tasting events. These are festive affairs with food and often a country music singer/band.

Tastings over, you can buy your wines from the gift shop along with other fresh goods and you might get the chance to buy wine related goodies including glasses or even home-making kits. Cheers!
