Owners Bob and Irene, who lived in San Diego for 20 years before transplanting some Californian ethics to the Western Wetlands of Kentucky, run Lite Side Bakery & Garden Cafe. This delightful little store and cafe sits at 2115 Dover Road (on Highway 453), Grand Rivers, right at the northern entrance to the LBL.
As its name suggests, the food at the Lite side is the healthier option with low fat and low sugar. Bob and Irene have been serving up the good stuff since 1994. Irene makes the baked goods and Bob in charge of breakfast and they collaborate as any good husband and wife team should to deliver your lunch. The personal service of the team even extends to serving up food that meets your specific needs if you’re following the Atkins or South Beach diet.
The menu crams in waffles, pancakes, and toasts, along with baked goods like brownies, sugar-free cakes, cream puffs, cinnamon rolls, turnovers, donuts, and fresh fruit tarts, all made by Irene’s skilled hands.
You might like to give the house specialty, the Lite Side Bison Burger a try, but, the absolute musts are the low fat muffins of which there are 37 varieties with about 18 flavors on offer each day. Sit down and enjoy a feel good bite at the Lite Side then be on your way with a picnic for later or a box of muffins but remember they are also available mail order when you reach home.
