WINDOWS BY THE WATER
Lake Barkley is the smaller of the two lakes that form The Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area and the resort and restaurant can be found at 3500 State Park RoadCadiz, Kentucky. The mission of Kentucky State Parks is to protect and preserve the natural beauty of Kentucky and unlike many of the facilities and amenities of LBL that are functional rather than aesthetic, or made of wood in an attempt to blend in, you’ll notice that Windows on the Water is completely sympathetic to its surroundings. The restaurant is made from post and beams, with high ceilings and as it name engenders, three and a half acres of glass.
At Windows on the Water you can relish in magnificent views across Lake Barkley from anywhere in the restaurant whilst onlookers enjoy a reflection of the view behind them. Not only is it a superb location but Windows on the Water has the reputation for the best home cooking in West Kentucky. It’s a full service, 331 seater restaurant and Chef Hattie serves up good old country cooking. You can choose from typical menu items like fried chicken, meat loaf, catfish, mashed potatoes and hush puppies. One of the house’s real treats is the Kentucky Hot Brown which is an open sandwich topped with baked ham, roasted turkey, mornay sauce, tomato, bacon, and cheddar cheese which is then toasted until the cheese is bubbly. Windows on the Water is a supporter of the Kentucky Proud program and uses locally grown meats and produce. At Windows on the Water you’ll enjoy fine food with friendly service in surroundings that are decorated according to the season, whilst watching boats and parades of birds. It’s reputation is well deserved.
