There are plenty of ways to enjoy the Land Between The Lakes even if you are not a fan of water sports, hiking, or energetic outdoor activities. The scenery is beautiful from any aspect, and thanks to the geography, off-lake and off-trail activities and attractions are increasing.
With the development of the LBL as the premier US area for outdoor recreation, and Kentucky farmers seeking alternatives to traditional tobacco crops, agri-tourism is on the rise. Visitors can now enjoy farm tours, artisan producers, craftsmen, and working vineyards and wineries.
About 17 miles northeast of Hopkinsville, in Christian County at 15000 Overton Drive, you’ll find the family-run Bravard Vineyards and Winery. Jim and Jan Bravard welcome you to their farm and vineyard for tastings every Saturday between 10 am and 5 pm.
The Bravard Vineyard is part of the Kentucky Wine Trail and has been growing grapes since 1985. The Bravards bought the 50-acre farm in 1980 and have since cultivated it into a thriving vineyard. Their expertise grew, and they obtained a commercial winery license in December 1992. From the initial few acres, they produced about 400 gallons of wine in the first year. Today, the vineyard has 6.5 acres of French-American hybrid and pure American grape varieties, producing six types of wine in two winery buildings.
You can taste the wines in a quaint room where you can also purchase wine and choose from a small range of wine accessories. The menu currently lists six wines: four whites, including two dessert styles, and two reds. Saturday wine tastings are complimentary. You are welcome to bring your own picnic or book a privately catered picnic for two from May through October. It’s a unique way to celebrate a special occasion.
Exploring the Land Between The Lakes offers more than just outdoor adventures. From picturesque farms to delightful wineries, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. So, even if you’re not into hiking or water sports, you can still have a memorable and enriching experience.
