Hunting within the Land Between the Lakes is an integral part of the wildlife management program. Because the recreation area has no population of large predators, hunters serve the valuable role of maintaining healthy and sustainable populations of species like white-tail deer.

With over 170,000 acres teeming with game and over 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, Land Between the Lakes offers a variety of hunting opportunities that is unparalleled in the Southeast. Further, with more than 230 days of in-season hunting opportunities, the Land Between the Lakes affords hunters ample chances to enjoy the recreation area.

Wildlife in LBL

White-tail deer, wild turkey, squirrels, and other forest game species are abundant throughout LBL. Land Between the Lakes offers annual spring quota and non- quota hunts for turkeys with fall archery and quota gun hunts for deer. Additionally, hunters can also enjoy a variety of camping choices, from the convenience of our developed campgrounds to the rustic adventure of camping Land Between the Lakes back-country. All hunters must have an Land Between the Lakes Hunter Use Permit and applicable state licenses.

Important Things to Remember when Hunting in the Land Between the Lakes

  1. Licenses and Permits: Hunters must possess appropriate state hunting licenses for Kentucky or Tennessee, depending on where they are in LBL. Additionally, LBL-specific hunting permits are required. These permits can be obtained from the LBL administrative office or designated vendors.
