You already know that the Land Between the Lakes is great for hiking, but when you decide you want to move from a nice day hike to something a lot more challenging, it may be time to think about North/South Trail. The North/South begins at the North Welcome center off Hwy. 453 and covers nearly 60 miles ending at the South Welcome Station.
The northern portion of the trail follows the bays of beautiful Kentucky Lake, and crosses Highway 453 near Golden Pond Visitor Center and Planetarium and then start to level out as it runs parallel to Highway 453.
The southern section leaves Highway 453 and continues down the middle of LBL before merging with Bear Creek Loop and ending at the South Welcome Station.
There is a nice map that has the trail divided into sections with mileage to different points of interest along the way. Many trail heads have signs with mileage to help guide your way. Yoou should expect to average somewhere around 2.0 miles an hour with your pack though most of the northern portion of the trail. There is plenty of water and the trails are well maintained and well traveled.
