Do you love gorgeous scenery? If so, then you are going to love sightseeing at the Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area. LBL is an area of North Tennessee and West Kentucky and the environs local to a peninsula between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. This area of outstanding natural beauty is forested peaks, grasslands, creeks and tributaries and wildlife aplenty.
LBL is managed by the Forest Service and is perfectly set up for guided tours and organised sightseeing or for going it alone. With over 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline and 170,000 plus acres of stunning scenic land you can choose a simple day trip or a long vacation.
With so many opportunities for great adventure it’s best if you start out at one of the visitors centers which are run by the Friends of LBL where you can find out the places you want to see. The friendly LBL staff will advise you which trails are best to reach any of the specific sightseeing locations, for example you might have a hankering to see elk and bison roaming their own especially regenerated prairie grassland or you might want to see Canadian geese in flight from any of their numerous lake haunts. You can find out which trails are best if you want to take your car or go by bike, on foot or even on horseback. You might even want to sightsee by paddling a canoe on the lake waters.
There are three Visitor Centers where you can plan your LBL sightseeing; North Welcome Station, South Welcome Station and Golden Pond Visitor Center. All three are on The Trace which is a road that runs north to south through LBL. It’s the main artery of LBL and it gives you access to all the attractions and facilities and most of the trails begin off The Trace.
Whether you choose to go on one of the recommended self guided tours or whether you put on your hiking boots and follow your own route, sightseeing at LBL is a wonderful chance to get close to nature as nature was intended to be.
