With a riding area surrounded by water, it’s rather easy to find waterfowl. However, the Wranglers’ Campground shoreline trail runs along a peninsula just across from a Kentucky state waterfowl refuge. The an emerald-green island just off the shores of Lake Barkley is brimming with geese, heron, ducks, gulls and a indigenous species of beautiful fowl. Be sure to bring binoculars and maybe a field guides and find immerse yourself in some world class bird watching.
It is not at all unusual to find hawks, owls, and even eagles are flying over the prairies and woodlands of the Land Between the Lakes searching for food. Red-tail hawks are often seen throughout the Wranglers’ facility, and often visitors are greeted by a single bird near the the Bacon Creek entrance of the Wranglers Campground.
